The “Monster House” is a 1905-built California Bungalow located in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles and renovated by Avi Ross Group in 2018. We wanted to honor the original integrity and features of the home while opening up the home to the surrounding dozens of mature fruit trees, making it feel like a true Californian oasis.
Indian Trail is an original 1936 Spanish Adobe style residence in Palm Springs, California. This project was started and completed during the very beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak. Given the circumstances and uncertainty of the time, this project was completed with a low budget and a very small team, with Marina & Avalon doing most of the work themselves. Though kitchen, bathrooms, and major systems were not fully renovated, we hoped to restore the clean, rustic character of the California desert adobe style through an update of colors, tones, textures, and landscaping.
Haleiwa, HI
Previously used as a tool shed, this forgotten structure on a 3-acre garden in Hawaii had the potential to become a space for rest, work, and shelter. Using only easily accessible basic materials - plywood, corrugated plastic sheets, mesh, and a variety of Balinese artifacts found on the property, and finished in about 10 days time, this low-cost (under 5k) renovation created a functional, much needed yet inspiring space.
Ximeno Ave is a 1920s built California Bungalow located in Long Beach, CA, consisting of a 3 bed/2 bath residence in the front, and 2 units over the garages in the rear. The property was renovated in 2020 by Avi Ross Group. We began this cosmetic renovation by revealing the beautifully intact original features of the bungalow; crown moulding, oak hardwood floors, built-in cabinets, and many large windows that allow light to flood the home. We created private outdoor spaces for both the home and the units. The construction and staging design aimed to highlight the vintage aspects of the home, while adding modern finishes and landscaping to give the home a zen and tranquil feel.
The Earl St. Residence is a 1920s built Spanish-style home in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. It had been converted into a duplex prior to purchase. Avi Ross Group renovated the property in 2017, joining the upper and lower floors and restoring the design back into a single family home. With the upper level containing all common spaces and two bedrooms, and the lower level as a large Master suite with a full bathroom, walk-in closet, and extra large deck with sweeping views, Earl St. once again became a home with both cohesion and privacy.
